Spring is on the horizon! As the days slowly warm up, little signs of life are beginning to appear, snowdrops and crocuses are pushing their way through the soil, hinting at the change of seasons.

On dry, sunny days, I’ll ease into garden cleanup, starting with some light weeding and adding the pulled weeds to the compost. It’s also time to trim the apple trees, making sure they’re set up for a good growing season.
The blackberry and raspberry canes need attention too—old growth gets trimmed away, and the new canes are tied in, ready to produce this year’s berries.

Of course, my bees need checking. February can be a tricky time for them if their food stores run low they might not make it to spring. A quick peek into the hives helps me make sure they have what they need to get through to March.

Finally, it’s time to tidy up my beekeeping equipment so everything is ready for the start of the bee season at the end of March. Slowly but surely, we’re getting ready for spring! Be sure to check in next month for the latest development in March!
